A new Farmfoods store is set to be built in Sheffield.

Plans have been submitted to build a new shop for the budget frozen food company in Parson Cross.

It is intended the store would be built on land between Wordsworth Avenue and Deerlands Avenue that has stood empty for 13 years, creating around 20 jobs when it opens.

The plans include the creation of a 48-space car park by the store.

The existing site is a vacant corner plot on the junction of Wordsworth Avenue and Deerlands Avenue which was previously occupied by houses that were demolished in 2003.

A decision on whether to give the site the go-ahead is scheduled to be made by April 25.

It is proposed the shop would be open between 8am and 10pm on weekdays, 8am to 8pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

A statement in support of the company’s application said: “The development of a new Farmfoods will help in the continued regeneration and growth of the Chaucer Road District Centre, and its role as a convenient and sustainable location for local services and retailing to cater for Parson Cross.

“The store will offer value for money groceries to the residents of Parson Cross and northern Sheffield; it will compliment the stores of Farmfoods in Woodseats and Hillsborough.

“The new store will generate approximately 15 to 20 new jobs which with be a mixture of full and part time roles.”
