The Star has appointed Jeremy Clifford as its new editor.
He has been acting editor since February.
Jeremy, aged 46, a married father of two, had been Editor of the Northants Evening Telegraph, in Kettering, also owned by Johnston Press. He succeeds John Furbisher.
Jeremy said: “In the short time I have been in Sheffield I have been impressed with what I have seen. The city is clearly one which is moving forward and is benefiting from substantial regeneration. It has a rich heritage and a proud sporting tradition.
“The people I have come into contact with, residents, business leaders, politicians and community leaders are justifiably proud of Sheffield and of South Yorkshire and I believe The Star plays an important part in their lives.
“I intend for that to continue and want to work with the people of South Yorkshire to help to make the region a vibrant, forward-looking and successful place that leads the way nationally in so many areas.
“The Star must listen to what its readers want and represent their views, campaigning on their behalf for the region. As the Editor, it is my intention to meet as many people as I can so that I can continue to keep The Star at the heart of the community it serves.”
