Once they partied there - and now students will sleep at the site of the former Gatecrasher superclub in Sheffield.

Planners today approved proposals for 128 flats on the iconic site off Arundel Street in less than a minute - with no speakers, comments or questions.

A spokesman for the applicant’s agents DLP Planning said the internal courtyard of the development had been designed around a DJ’s mixing desk in a nod to the site’s former use.

The club was burned to the ground in June 2007.

Developer City Estates will demolish the last building on site before work begins.
