A RIBBON was cut to declare a new community hub officially open in a Sheffield shopping centre.

The new hub is located in the the Gaunt Shopping Centre on Blackstock Road, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield.

The Valley View Centre is a joint venture between Gleadless Valley Community Forum and Sheffield Council’s regeneration team.

It is part of the Successful Centres project, which aims to regenerate areas by turning local shopping centres into the hearts of their communities.

Gleadless Valley Forum manager Steve Rundell said: “The valley has been in need of a centre like this for some time.

“It will provide a new heart for members of the local community who can drop in for refreshments and check out the secondhand shop.

“I hope everyone will come along to visit the new centre to find out about the facilities available on their doorstep,” he said.

The unit has a second-hand shop and seats where shoppers can relax with a hot drink and a cake.

There is also a display area.

Each month different traders from all over the city will show off their wares in the display area.

A new health trainer, who is currently being recruited, will be on hand to advise residents how to cook simple healthy food from fresh produce they’ve bought.

Steve added: “The building has endless opportunities.”

The ceremony was attended by local councillor Kate McDonald and chair of the trustees Maurice Collins and manager Steve Rundell.

Also attending were volunteers and local residents.

The Hub is open Monday to Friday, from 11am to 2pm, and is staffed by volunteers.
