A NEW national church role to support parishes across the country is to be based in Sheffield.
The advisor in Catholic evangelism is to be combined with the role of vicar of St Matthew’s Church on Carver Street.
Discussions between the Bishop of Sheffield, the Bishop of Beverley and Church Army led to the post, which is being supported financially by a number of Catholic charities.
It aims to help and support Anglican-catholic models of evangelisation within the Church of England.
The post is likely to be advertised in the autumn.
Archdeacon of Sheffield and Rotherham, Martyn Snow, said: “It is now widely recognised that the church finds itself in a new kind of mission context in the UK and that much of our nation needs to be re-evangelised.
“We are delighted by the prospect of this new post.”
