hundreds of paid apprenticeships will be provided to students in a project aiming to create the next generation of world-leading engineers.
The pioneering Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre training centre in Catcliffe has been unveiled by the University of Sheffield and is the largest scheme of its kind in the UK.
It is due to be completed in autumn 2013, part-funded by a £9.2 million regional growth fund grant, and was launched by Hallam MP and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
Mr Clegg said: “It’s a collaboration which I hope will really become an absolutely first rate way of getting people trained up with skills for the jobs in the future.”
The training centre will provide tailored courses of practical and academic skills for around 250 people a year.
