STANNINGTON Band has always had a reputation for using brass wisely.
So when it received fresh funding members decided to use the cash to buy a new euphonium.
The new instrument is a great boost to the band ahead of the British Brass Band Senior Trophy contest in Blackpool on May 14, to which the band has gained entry for the first time.
Also to benefit from the upgrade is Stannington’s Training Band which offers tuition and performance experience to learners and complete beginners.
The replaced euphonium has been passed on to enable another budding brass player to improve their musical skills. And the new instrument will be put through its paces by solo euphonium player Tony Cooper at a concert in the Lomas Hall, Stannington, on Saturday, May 21 when both bands will perform.
The funding boost came from the Co-operative Community Foundation, Northern Community Assembly and West Riding Masonic charities.
