The new appeal, written as though it is from Ben himself, has been posted on the 'Help Find Ben Needham' Facebook page.

Posted with a picture of Ben, who was 21 months old when he vanished on the Greek island of Kos, in 1991, the appeal reads: “My name is Ben Needham. I disappeared on 24th July 1991.

“I was 21 months old when I was involved in an accident on Kos Island, Greece.

“My family are still trying to find me so they can take me home.

“They need me. I need them. Please tell someone where I am.”

Detectives believe Ben was killed in an accident with a digger close to the farmhouse his grandfather was renovating on the day the toddler vanished.

Land around the farmhouse has been excavated but his remains have never been found.

Posting on Facebook, Ben's family said: "Help us bring Ben home where he belongs. Ben needs to be bought home."
