The helipad at the Northern General Hospital is closer to the accident and emergency department than the old one, speeding up the length of time is takes to get patients into the unit.

At the moment patients have to be loaded into a land ambulance and driven to the A&E unit once they land at the old helipad.

Firms, local residents, medics and staff at city hospitals have taken part in a series of fundraising events to raise cash to pay for the new helipad.
