Naturist group sets its sights on city with open swim event

NATURISTS are looking to fulfil a naked ambition with an event in Sheffield to recruit more members.

The UK’s official nudist group British Naturism is launching a new venture in the city in a bid to entice new members.

Members of the Yorkshire branch have hired out Chapeltown Baths in Burncross Road for the Sheffield Swim, which will allow them to use the pool and sauna facilities for a session.

Organisers hope to make the event a regular fixture on the British Naturism social calendar, meaning some of its 10,000 members could use the baths as a meeting point.

The event is currently being advertised on the organisation’s official website.

In a bid to entice new members, the group is welcoming new faces who are over 18 - and the event is free to students.

Andrew Calow, a co-organiser of the Sheffield Swim, said: “It is hoped that this will become a regular swim, but it depends on how it goes for this inaugural event.

“A poll carried out by British Naturism in 2011 found that there were nearly four million naturists in this country, so we are wanting to recruit more members, hence the idea of holding a naturist swim in the Sheffield area.”

The event starts at 4.30pm and lasts for one hour. Admission for non-members is £3 and they are asked to bring identification.
