Naomi's a silver server!
SUPER sporty septuagenarian Naomi Crowder is back from Australia – and as usual she's brought some precious metal home to Sheffield.
This time Naomi, who at the age of 73 competes in Masters Tournaments, picked up silver in the World Championships in Sydney.
Naomi won her medal in the mixed doubles tennis tournament after she and her partner – Canadian Cecil Stokoe, whom she had never met before – stormed their way to the final.
Naomi, a former Crucible Theatre usherette from Westminster Road, Lodge Moor, also finished in the top 10 in several swimming events.
The silver-haired silver medalist's latest success comes on top of the clutch of medals she won this year in New Zealand. Then she she took five golds in swimming, a silver in tennis and a bronze in the 5km walk.
So what next for Naomi?
"Well I was thinking I might call it a day," she said. "But the people who have organised next year's New Zealand Games are making it extra special this year due to it being the 21st anniversary of the event.
"And when they asked me to compete, well, I just couldn't say no."
Naomi trains with the City of Sheffield Swimming Club and plays tennis at Hallam Grange.
But she's not bragging.
"Australian Ruth Firth, who won the shot put with a throw of 4.07m, is 100 years old – how good is that? She's a real inspiration and another example that you're never too old to give something a go."
