A coroner has opened an inquest into the death of a man who died in a suspected hit-and-run in Chesterfield.
Gavin Treweek, 46, of Devon Drive, Brimington, was pronounced dead just before 12.45am on Saturday, May 28.
Speaking at Chesterfield coroners' court on Monday, Detective Sergeant Sue Hancock, of Derbyshire police's collision investigation unit, said: "We believe he was a pedestrian when he was struck by a vehicle on the dual carriageway section of the A619 between the Sainsbury's roundabout at the Tesco roundabout in Chesterfield.
"A witness saw the vehicle at the scene and then saw Mr Treweek in the road.
"The vehicle which struck him failed to stop but it was traced later that morning and the driver came into the police station."
A Derbyshire police spokesman said a 41-year-old woman was arrested following the incident. She has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Coroner James Newman said: "We're currently awaiting a full report from the pathologist and police investigations are still ongoing."
He adjourned the inquest.
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries should call 101.
