“We’ve passed him on to mental health services in the area.”

Andrew Butler was on his way to work when he had to stop his car and pull over because of the incident.

Andrew said: “I felt like I was watching a movie.

“It was unreal and I was just really shocked by it all.”

It is not known how long the man had been standing there.

The man eventually dropped the knife and walked over to a police car.

Andrew added: “They put him in the back of the vehicle and a police officer picked up the knife.

“I think it was a 12-inch kitchen knife.

“It was one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen.”
