Mystery over 28,0000 tonnes of golf course rubble
ONE of the two men who signed an agreement to dump 28,000 tonnes of rubble on Hillsborough golf course says he has never seen the contract that bears his signature.
Paul White, of Aaron White Ltd, a long-established Sheffield demolition and excavation expert is said, according to an independent report commissioned by Hillsborough Golf Club members, to have initially verbally agreed a contract with former club president Jack Timms.
Demands for the fourth and fifth holes at Hillsborough Golf Club to be excavated have been made after the report said 28,000 tonnes of demolition spoil was tipped on the course during the remodelling of the holes – and no records were kept of what was dumped.
"According to Jack Timms, Paul White drew up the contract," says the report.

It adds: "No specification for the work was produced, and no bills of quantity prepared. No copies of any agreements, planning permissions, authorities, qualifications relating to the approval were received by Paul White.
"A written contract was then produced, which consisted of a single handwritten sheet of paper.
"When questioned, Paul White stated that he had never seen the contract and had not been given a copy of it.
"It was not known why it was drawn up after the start of the project, but Jack is adamant that Paul White signed it and the signature appears to be on the copy of the document along with Jack's.
"Paul White has stated that he does not recognise the signature of the document as his! It is clear that the authenticity of this contract document is questionable, but it is in any event totally inadequate for the purpose.
"The hole in front of the new fourth green was filled, as required by the planning permission, and it seems that increasing liberties were taken with additional landfill on the low side of the site.
The Star called Aaron White and Sons Demolition to speak to Paul White. A message was left with an employee but our call was not returned.
The report estimates it will cost the club a further 100,000 to reconstruct the fourth hole and says: "The inquiry team would strongly recommend that the club takes a long hard look at itself and sets about a wind of change that will ensure that never again can this scenario be repeated.
"Do not allow this issue to be swept under the carpet – rather use it as a catalyst to ensure the club moves forward and seeks to better itself for the benefit of all and once again make the name of Hillsborough Golf Club one to be admired."
