It COULD be weeks before police are able to establish the identity of the burned body found on an allotment plot in South Yorkshire.
The body was discovered by police on Thursday afternoon but a post mortem examination the following day failed to establish the identity or the cause of death. Further tests could take weeks.
A thorough forensic examination of the allotment plot on Long Lane, Oxspring, Barnsley, has been carried out but that too has proved inconclusive in establishing how the fire started.
A police spokesman said: “Detectives have now concluded forensic examination and searches at the scene. At this time, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
“A post-mortem examination has yet to confirm the identify of the deceased or the exact cause of death.”
