Happy New Year to all – we are sure that 2015 is going to be a great one as this April Yorkshire’s Doncaster Sheffield Airport celebrates its 10th anniversary. We’ve forecast growth in 2015 both in passenger numbers and in cargo coming in and out of the airport and that is great news for us in our celebration year.

Despite being 10 years old, Doncaster Sheffield Airport is still the UK’s newest airport and continues to work to establish a strong base providing a growing leisure offering to customers from Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and beyond.

Working with business leaders from across Yorkshire we have set up a business advocacy group to help us to understand and address the travel needs of our region’s businesses in 2015.

And thanks to our work with our incumbent airlines in 2014 we will see new routes and extra seats on offer from the airport this year.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is Wizz Air’s second largest UK base and the only one in Yorkshire. This year there will be extra WizzAir flights to Katowice, in Poland, Riga in Latvia, Vilinus, in Lithuania and Poznan in Poland.

New for this year is our relationship with independent tour operator Newmarket Holidays, who will operate new exciting packages to Italy from the airport. These packages, which offer a real taste of Italy, include escorted tours including the ‘Seven Cities of Italy’, ‘Lake Garda’ and the ‘Italian Lakes’. Along with the independent trips to Italy on offer passengers will be able to make the most of the new links to the beautiful European destination.

Last year saw unprecedented growth in our cargo activity which is operated by Anglo World Cargo and we are expecting to build on this in 2015. Our cargo team have built strong relationships and the airport is now firmly on the global logistics map.

We’ve now welcomed a Boeing 727-200 aircraft to our newly refurbished hanger in a new partnership with British company 2Excel Aviation Ltd which will further boost our cargo activity.

The B727 aircraft will be used to support cargo operations including chartered flights to relevant locations around the world under the Anglo World Cargo operations activity.

The partnership with 2Excel is great news for the airport and shows that the reputation of our cargo terminal and our provision of logistical expertise is growing worldwide.

2015 is the year that we will see the transformational FARRRS link road take shape. Work is going well and the gateway to the city region project is on target to complete by January 2016.

FARRRS will dramatically improve journey times to Doncaster Sheffield Airport supporting development at the new Enterprise Zone and its other business parks.

This is a year for celebration and growth.
