Have your say

Welcome to our latest regular feature My Favourite Things where Doncaster residents share their thoughts and feelings about the place where they live.

Here’s what Ross Jarvie, new chairman of Bawtry Retail Association, and partner at Fine & Country, has to say.

How long have you lived in Doncaster and whereabouts?

I have lived in Misson Springs for nearly a year, but have worked in and around Bawtry for over 10 years.

Family?

I live with my wife, Vicky, and daughter Lucy, together with our menagerie of cats, dogs, horses, geese and peacocks!

Where do you work?

I am a partner at Fine & Country, Bawtry but spend most of my time surveying within the region.

What, if any, involvement do you have with local groups?

I have been involved with the Bawtry Retail Association (BRA) since its inception and have recently taken up the position of chairman.

What is it you like about living in Doncaster?

I love the fact that Doncaster and surrounding areas have everything from polar bears at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park, open countryside on the doorstep, and some of the best places to shop, eat and drink in the country.

Do you have a favourite hidden gem in Doncaster?

The Maize Maze at Boston Park Farm is a great way to spend a summer afternoon getting lost (literally!) with all the family.

What would be your favourite day out?

Breakfast at The Crown, Bawtry followed by a day with the family at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Back in time to watch chukkas at The Vale of York Polo Club, then dinner at Ziniz before heading home to walk our golden retriever, April.

What is your favourite pub/place to eat

In Bawtry we are spoilt for choice! But Caz at The Crown’s fish and chips takes some beating, and China Rose are consistently excellent.

Do you have any hobbies? What do you do in your spare time?

I like to play golf when I have time, otherwise spending time with family and friends and renovating our family home happily takes up much of my free time.

Favourite book?

To Kill a Mockingbird Bird, having first been forced to read it at school, it has become one of my favourites.

Favourite film?

Blues Brothers, for the music.

What sort of music do you like to listen to?

I like an eclectic mix of music and have the radio on for most of the day in the car; anything from rock to classical. However, my daughter’s Taylor Swift album is my guilty pleasure.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Salmon, new potatoes and greens, washed down by good wine. Followed by Pavlova.

You’re stranded on a desert island and you can be joined by one other person - dead or alive - who would it be?

I couldn’t choose between my wife and daughter, so if pushed I’d have to go with Bear Grylls who at least could keep us alive and well fed!
