I WAS very interested to read about the regeneration of Wentworth Woodhouse and recently started reading the book Black Diamonds about the house. My grandparents worked there in the early 1900s.
I know very little about them except that they were called Jemima and Henry Fisher. I think they had five children, Alan, Doris, Nellie, Kitty and Maud. My mother was Maud and both her parents were dead by the time she was 13. She was brought to live in Torquay by people her family knew and she stayed here ever since. She’s now deceased and I think all her siblings are too.
It would be so interesting if any families in the village remember my family.
The following is true as far as I know: Nellie was a nurse and never married. Alan was a gardener and he had a son, also called Alan. Doris married and had two children, Barry and Pauline. Kitty married and had two boys, one called Harvey.
I hope the restoration goes ahead and I hope very much to visit once this is done.
