Museums staff agree to pay cut to save services
STAFF at Museums Sheffield have volunteered to take a pay cut so services do not have to be hit after the organisation received a reduced budget for the coming year.
Sheffield Council has scaled back the agency's budget by five per cent for 2010-11 and challenged bosses to reduce management costs.
Museums Sheffield runs sites including Weston Park Museum and the Millennium Galleries.
The move by its workers could mean proposals to axe weekend opening at Bishop's House, Meersbrook, being dropped.
Museums Sheffield revealed it was considering saving money by restricting opening of the historic building to school groups and during a small number of special events during the year.
It pointed out that as few as 10 people were visiting Bishop's House at weekends.
But the idea led to protests by the Friends of Bishop's House and Meersbrook Park Users Association - supported by Heeley MP Meg Munn.
