Murder charge as man, 38, shot dead

A 54-year-old has been charged with murder after a Doncaster man was shot dead in a Yorkshire village.

Jonathan Smith, aged 38, from the Doncaster area, died from gunshot wounds after the incident six days ago on May 20.

Police have charged Peter Guy, of Melton Old Road, Melton, East Yorkshire, in connection with his murder.

He has been remanded in custody and the case will now be heard at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday.

Police officers and paramedics were called to an address in Melton last Tuesday evening after the sound of gunshot was heard.

A 15-year-old boy appeared at Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Friday and has been charged in connection with the incident with wounding with intent.

A third man taken into police custody in connection with the incident has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police currently remain at the scene of the incident as forensic investigations draw to a close, while reassurance patrols are expected to remain in place over the weekend.
