A baby group which faced closure along with a Sheffield library has been saved thanks to volunteers.
Numbers dwindled at the Baby Time group, which met at Stannington library, after Sheffield Council announced it would be relinquishing control.
And the organisation looked set to close after its last meeting. But now two mums have stepped in to save it.
Teachers Charlotte Sturridge and Sue MacPherson worked to make it happen with the STAND group, which is taking over the library.
The first revived session will now run on October 2.
Rosemary Telfer, library volunteer manager, said: “Baby Time is an ideal activity in a community library such as Stannington’s.
“The management group salutes Charlotte and Sue for volunteering to take it on and make it work. We will also have a weekly toddlers’ session every Wednesday afternoon, and a number of adult reading groups.
“They all provide reasons why Stannington – and all the other local libraries – should stay open.”
Charlotte, a mother of three daughters – two of them twins – said she had been ‘disappointed’ the group could close and it was well loved.
Stannington mums are invited to the October 2 session from 2.15pm to 3pm.
