Mulled wine at St Luke’s service

SIXTY bottles of red wine, 12 boxes of mulling spices, eight litres of orange juice and one special mystery ingredient - that’s what it takes to keep visitors to St Luke’s Hospice Festival of Light warm on a chilly December evening.

The mulled wine was created by St Luke’s chef Mick Matthewman from an old family recipe and is always a big hit.

The Festival of Light sees the hospice gardens at Little Common Lane, Whirlow, transformed into a Winter Wonderland by thousands of lights – all dedicated in memory of a loved one.

This year’s event has already raised £35,300.

The switch on tomorrow at 6pm will be performed by Audrey Rose, one of the festival founders.
