Sheffield MP Nick Clegg has welcomed a Government cash boost to help revitalise the city centre.
The £28,000 loan was awarded to Sheffield from the Government’s Business Improvement District Loan Fund.
It is to be spent creating a Business Improvement District, where firms in a defined area vote on any additional services they want to invest in, to improve their trading environment.
Improvements can include extra cleaning, environmental measures or advertising.
Lib Dem MP and Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg MP, said: “We all know that we need to see improvements to our city centre and the support being offered to local businesses without delay.
“Business Improvement Districts can help local businesses take control and enhance the high street in order to attract new trade.
“I’m still pushing the council for action to bring forward the development of the new retail quarter, for which there is more than £30 million investment available thanks to Sheffield’s ‘City Deal’. However, in the meantime we need to do everything we can to improve the situation so that traders can be successful and create new jobs.”
