Rotherham MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Housing and Planning, John Healey, visited a new retirement development in Wickersley due to open next month.

He was given a tour of the McCarthy and Stone development, Companions Court, and told about the demand for purpose-built retirement housing in the region.

The development on Companions Close will provide 39 one and two bedroom apartments aimed exclusively at the over 60s, with first homeowners expected to move into their new homes next month.

Mr Healey, who represents Wentworth and Dearne, said: “Living independently and securely is so important and with a growing number of people reaching retirement age we must ensure developments like this are top of the list when it comes to local town planning.”
