RAIL bosses should ensure the commitment is honoured to electrify a route between Sheffield and London, an MP has said.
Clive Betts, who represents Sheffield South East, said he was ‘concerned’ a final commitment to deliver the Midland Main Line changes, which would cut journey times before 2020, had not been made.
He said: “It is absolutely essential the commitment to the electrification of the Midland Mainline is delivered.”
Mr Betts also flagged up Network Rail’s recent strategic business plan, which he said raised concerns about capacity.
He added: “It is incumbent on all local interested parties to keep up pressure on the Government, Network Rail and the Office of the Rail Regulator to ensure electrification is delivered in the current strategic plan period. This has to be an essential component in the city region’s future economic prospects.”
