GENEROUS people making donations to doorstep charity collections are being warned to be vigilant about which organisation they support.
Bassetlaw Labour MP John Mann has warned that people could be giving unwittingly to third party organisations working for commercial gain, not to the charities themselves. John is supporting the British Heart Foundation’s nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the commercial doorstep collections.
The charity has seen a 25 per cent drop in household collections due to the commercial activity - costing it a staggering £3 million in the next year in lost donations, which could be spent in the fight against heart disease.
Mr Mann is today visiting the Worksop British Heart Foundation shop to highlight how 100 per cent of profits made from donations to the BHF stay with the charity, against as little as five per cent from commercial collections.
