A SHEFFIELD MP joined wildlife campaigners to hand in a mammoth petition urging the Government not to launch a cull of badgers.
Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts, helped the Badger Protection League deliver the 10,000-signature petition to 10 Downing Street.
The Government is still to make a final decision on whether to kill thousands of badgers as part of a strategy to control bovine tuberculosis in cattle in England.
Mr Betts said: “There is a long-standing problem with bovine TB in the UK. But there is a contradictory evidence about whether badgers give TB to cattle or cattle give it to badgers.
“There is also no scientific evidence that culling badgers actually deals with the problem.”
