SHEFFIELD MP Meg Munn was among politicians from South Yorkshire who signed a book in memory of victims of the Holocaust.
The Labour politician, who represents Heeley, added her named in the House of Commons Book of Commitment to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which takes place today.
MPs signing the book vow that the horrors of the genocide - and lessons learned - will never be forgotten.
Mrs Munn said: “We reflect on the horrors that occurred during the Holocaust and we remember all those that suffered in the concentration camps. Whilst anti-Semitism, racism and prejudice still survive in society we must pledge to learn from the past and look to create a brighter future for all.”
In its 10th year of commemoration in the UK, Holocaust Memorial Day 2011 marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau camp.
Karen Pollock, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Trust, said: “We are delighted Meg Munn MP is once again supporting Holocaust Memorial Day. As the number of survivors dwindle, remembering the Holocaust is more crucial than ever - reinforcing lessons that can be learnt from this dark period.”
