MP’s plea over youth team cuts

Have your say

ROTHERHAM MP Denis MacShane has written to Justice Secretary Ken Clarke raising concerns over potential cuts to the town’s Youth Offending Team.

He said the team, which works to stop reoffending and set up community projects for young people, is the best performing in the region and ranked 16th nationally, but claims its future is in doubt because of Government funding cuts.

The MP said: “Why are we cutting back on frontline services which have been shown to reduce reoffending rates?”

“The Rotherham YOT should be commended.”
