MP’s Murdoch debate demand

CALLS have been made by a South Yorkshire MP for a House of Commons debate on press baron Rupert Murdoch’s dealings with the coalition Government.

Denis MacShane MP, a former president of the National Union of Journalists, has said the House of Commons should sit an extra day next week to allow a full debate on the new revelations emerging from the Leveson Inquiry into media standards.

It follows the resignation of Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s policy adviser Adam Smith over accusations he had regular contact with Mr Murdoch’s corporation.
