Cheaper bus fares could be on the way for young people - with proposals revealed for a 70p multi-journey ticket.
Currently, youngsters are charged a 70p flat fare for each journey by bus, tram and local train in South Yorkshire, but have to pay again if they need to change services.
Sarah Champion, Labour MP for Rotherham, revealed plans to charge a flat 70p fare for through journeys no matter how many changes are needed, during a debate in Parliament about the importance of bus travel.
She said: “I support the attempt to encourage operators in South Yorkshire to only change young people 70p for through journeys, regardless of how many changes are needed. Buses are vital for young people. They enable them to have independence, access facilities and get to work or college.”
