SOUTH Yorkshire MP and former Foreign Office minister Denis MacShane told of his fears Islamic extremists could take over in Egypt.

He said there was a danger the country’s military - currently in charge - could strike a deal with the Muslim Brotherhood. There would be “no space for secular democracy”.

During a House of Commons debate, Labour MP Mr MacShane said he was “dismayed” one of the military’s first announcements was to ban strikes and stop trade unions functioning.
