Sheffield MP Paul Blomfield has hit out over a decision to axe the jobs of 239 Sheffield-based civil servants.
The Central MP branded a decision by SCCL, a private company part-owned by the Government, to shut the city’s Department for Work and Pensions office ‘shameful’.
News that work will be sent overseas came just four months after the Hanover Way office was privatised.
Mr Blomfield said: “Ministers have let a private company axe public service jobs from Sheffield, and look set to let them move the jobs offshore. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
“Last year I asked the Government how many jobs would be moved offshore under privatisation. The minister refused to give a straight answer.”
