A South Yorkshire MP has thrown his weight behind a campaign to ‘Keep Trade Local’.
John Healey, the MP for Wentworth and Dearne, attend the Federation of Small Businesses campaign meeting last Friday in Wath-upon-Dearne.
Mr Healey is also giving his support to a campaign by the FSB to encourage councils to sign up to a pledge to use local small firms.
The FSB say that for the past three years, small independent shops have been closing at a rate of 5,000 per year in the UK,
They say that there are estimated to be another 50,000 shops on the brink of closure and they are aiming to halt the threat of extinction for those businesses.
Mr Healey said: “I’m happy to support this valuable campaign.
“By backing South Yorkshire businesses, shoppers and councils are helping keep money within the local economy.”
The FSB has over 4,500 members in the South and East Yorkshire region.
