The funeral of a Sheffield community volunteer who died while going out on his daily litter pick is to be held next week.

Ron Holt, aged 86, had walked only a few hundred yards from his home in Thornbridge Drive, Frecheville, with his friend Tom Broadhead, when he collapsed suffering heart failure last Tuesday morning.

Cabbie Gareth Carr, who works for City Taxis, was driving past and stopped to give CPR in an attempt to save his life.

Ron was pronounced dead in an ambulance at the scene.

The funeral will be at 3.15pm next Wednesday, April 24, at City Road Crematorium. His family request donations to Thornberry Animal Sanctuary instead of flowers.

Ron’s daughter, Linda Latif, said: “My dad was a gentleman – in every sense, kind, generous, with a good sense of humour. He and his friends would walk around Frecheville Park and Pond almost every morning, fill 10 bags with cans, then sell them and give the money to Thornberry Animal Sanctuary.”
