Motorists urged to park considerately in Chesterfield

Police in Chesterfield are urging motorists to park considerately in the town centre.

It follows concerns over the number of vehicles parking in the pedestrianised area in and around the Market Place, next to the Market Hall and down to New Square.

Sergeant Nick Booth, of the Chesterfield Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Towards the end of August we had an incident where a woman had collapsed in this area and the ambulance crew had difficulty getting to her due to the high number of parked vehicles.

“The vehicles can also cause issues for the large amount of pedestrians visiting this area on busy days, which can, of course, affect their safety.

“It is really important that drivers park both legally and considerately, with respect for others using the area. Please park only in the designated areas.

“We will be patrolling the area and taking positive action against any drivers found breaching the parking restrictions to help us ensure the safety of everyone using the town centre area.”
