A man charged with death by dangerous driving following a fatal crash in Mexborough has pleaded not guilty.

The victim, John Thompson, 72, from Conisbrough, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in a collision, which occurred at around 10.20am on Doncaster Road on February 21.

Three cars were involved in the collision; a black Audi A4, which was travelling towards Mexborough from Denaby Main, and a white Vauxhall Corsa and a green Toyota Corolla, both travelling in the opposite direction.

Mr Thompson, the driver of the Toyota, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary but was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

The driver of the Audi, Aleksandrs Ivanovs, 31, of Manvers Road, Mexborough, was remanded in custody after entering his plea.

A passenger in the Audi, a 34-year-old man, was injured and a second passenger in the Audi, an 18-year-old man, and the driver of the Corsa, a 41-year-old man, suffered slight injuries.

The case was adjourned and Aleksandrs Ivanovs will next appear on Sheffield Crown Court on May 4.
