A driver who crashed into a motorway barrier when a tyre blew had been drinking heavily the night before, Doncaster magistrates were told.
David Robert Sim, aged 63, was unhurt in the crash on the M1 near Barnsley last month – but a breath test showed he was almost twice the legal limit.
He pleaded guilty to drink driving and was fined £300 with £85 costs and banned for 18 months.
Walter Brook, defending, said Sim, of High Street, Thurnscoe, drank a ‘considerable amount’ the night before while discussing his daughter’s tenancy problems with her.
He added: “He got up at 6am, had a coffee, and didn’t appreciate he was still in drink.”
