A WOMAN woke in the middle of the night to find a kinfe-wielding raider shining a torch in her face.
The 30-year-old was at home in Camden Grove, Maltby, Rotherham, with her four children when three intruders broke in.
She told police she woke to find one of the men in her bedroom and saw another on the stairs.
Her terrified children, spotted a third man in the house.
The mum said she was upstairs with her one-year-old child while her three other children - aged 11, three and two - were in the lounge downstairs, having fallen asleep watching television.
Police said the woman broke her wrist during a struggle with the intruder in her room, but managed to get to her bedroom window and scream for help.
The three raiders fled with the woman’s purse, which contained a small amount of cash and bank cards.
Detective Sergeant Nikki Shimwell from South Yorkshire Police said: “This is a very nasty and violent break-in, with three men terrifying and injuring a mother while her four young children were in the house.
“The offenders were wearing dark clothing and their faces were covered with scarves.
“We are establishing why the offenders may have targeted this property and are providing support to the victim, who required hospital treatment following this horrific ordeal.”
DC Iain Martin, who is also involved in the investigation, said it was a ‘harrowing’ incident.
He said: “This lady woke up to find a male in her bedroom shining a torch in her face and with a knife in his hand,”
He added: “She is still upset and traumatised but she is trying to put on a brave face for the children.”
Detectives believe the house was targeted in a deliberate attack and are trying to establish the reason why.
n Witnesses to the raid at 12.30am on Sunday, October 16, should call police on 0114 220 2020.
