A MOTHER and her nine-year-old son were rescued by firefighters when a blaze broke out at their home in the early hours of this morning.

The 33-year-old woman and her young child were trapped in an upstairs bedroom at the property on Ash Grove, Kiveton Park, after the fire started downstairs at 2.40am.

A control room operator from the fire brigade gave the mother vital safety advice over the phone after she called 999.

Crews from Mosborough and Aston stations attended the scene and left at 3.50am.

Watch manager Mark Jones said: “I think they only had a couple more minutes left in the room before it got very serious.”

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is still ongoing, but it is believed to have been started deliberately.
