More 'Urban Rangers' plea

NEW recruits are wanted to join South Yorkshire Fire Service's 'Urban Rangers' scheme in Stocksbridge.

Rangers, who must be aged 16 to 18, will patrol the area giving out safety advice and talking to local residents.

They will be taught first aid and act as ambassadors for the fire service and police, trying to spread important safety messages to young people.

Sheffield district manager Richard Chandler, who is behind the scheme, said: "It's not about keeping kids off the streets, it's about them getting out there, showing people they can play a part in building safer, stronger and even greener neighbourhoods."
