Krynkl, the development in Sheffield made from recycled shipping containers, hasn’t yet been completed - but already there are plans for similar schemes in the city.
The project is being built at Shalesmoor, and is set to feature shops, offices, a barber’s, a new gym and a restaurant. And developer Crossbow Investments - owned by the team behind the scheme’s designer, Coda Studios - is making plans for two more shipping container buildings, both in Sheffield, with the potential for a third.
Planning permission for the Shalesmoor development was granted last year.
The popularity of buildings comprised of shipping containers is on the rise.
Leisure complex Boxpark, in Shoreditch, London, is one of the most successful examples. In Sheffield, a temporary market called Ship:Shop was first mooted seven years ago, in place of the then-stalled Sevenstone retail quarter.
Estate agent Redbrik plans to open its fifth office within the region at Krynkl. Other tenants include Trib3 gym, Joro restaurant by the Milestone, Bunker Unisex Hair Salon, Sports Physio and Massage and a Superheroes shop.
Free offices at Krynkl are being offered for 12 months to start-up businesses.
