Thanks to Colin Drury for getting on his bike to see what it’s really like for cyclists in Sheffield after Rachael Clegg’s accident. Greens support the work of Cycle Sheffield and hope to be able to support the Space for Cycling pledges they are drafting.

Sheffield has improved for cyclists in recent years. But it was disappointing that cycle campaigners had to fight off a recent council proposal for cyclists and pedestrians to jointly use a stretch of pavement as a solution to Ecclesall Road traffic issues.

The council has an agreed plan, A Vision for Excellent Transport in Sheffield. It recognises a need to encourage reduced car use linked to increased use of public transport and more cycling and walking. If officers follow that plan, more people will be able to travel safely in the future.
