YOUNGSTERS at a Sheffield Scout troop are celebrating after they received a new 14-square-foot tent from their local community assembly.

The 150th Scout Group, based at Wadsley Church has notched up over 750 nights away in the last year. So they were thrilled when Coun Diane Leek arrived at their Spring Fayre with a new tent.

Scout leader Dave Wright said: “Taking the kids away camping gives youngsters the opportunity to develop in many different ways.

“From fishing for their own supper to kayaking on the lake, the new accommodation means even more youngsters can enjoy the adventure when camping.”

The Wadsley troop now has more than 150 scouts and cubs. Dave said: “It’s great that so many people want to be members. But this popularity means we need more volunteers so that we can get kids off our waiting lists and into the great outdoors.”

Coun Leek was asked to name the tent and chose Whispering Trees. She said: “As an assembly it’s great that we can fund something so useful to a local scout group that can benefit for many years to come.”
