Model behaviour for a charity fundraiser

STRIKE a pose! Models took to the catwalk showing off creations from a host of city centre boutiques as part of a fashion and lifestyle event to raise money for motor neurone disease research.

The event at the Royal Victoria Holiday Inn was set up by Sheffield entrepreneur Dawn Bates who decided to raise money for the Sheffield Institute Foundation for MND after her neighbour was diagnosed with the terminal illness.

The evening raised 5,000 for the cause – which plans to bring the world's first dedicated research centre for MND and other neurological conditions to the city in partnership with the University of Sheffield.

Guests were welcomed with a champagne reception before exploring exhibition stands set up by lifestyle companies ranging from a reiki healer to a cosmetic dentist.

The catwalk show featured collections from Squirtz, Sister, Claire Wilson, Seasons, Avorio and Esporta, with hair styled by Loaf in Broomhill and Woodseats.

Special guests included the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire Helena Muller, and Lesley Eland from city charity Neurocare who spoke about MND.

The evening was finished with a charity auction – where prizes included a day in the life of a reporter at The Star and a tour of the House of Commons before dinner with Hallam MP Nick Clegg – and raffle which raised even more money for the cause.

Dawn, from Brincliffe Edge, said she was thrilled with the amount raised.

The 31-year-old founder of media solutions company ABL said: "Everyone seemed to enjoy the night and I'm over the moon with the amount of money we've raised for such a wonderful cause.

"Thank you to everyone who helped get this event off the ground, their support has been amazing. This cash is set to do brilliant things – bringing a world-first medical research facility to Sheffield, offering hope to MND sufferers everywhere."
