WORKERS travelling into Sheffield from the south of the city yesterday morning faced long delays after traffic was redirected due to a fire.
The fire occurred at around 6.55am in an unoccupied building which for many years provided home to the Delyse Humphrey’s Style model agency.
The building, which is believed to belong Arnold Laver, is on Broadfield Road close to the junction with Chesterfield Road, Heeley.
The fire was discovered by Chartered Accountant Bryan Grey, who spotted smoke.
Bryan, whose offices are adjacent to the site, said: “I called 999 straight away and thankfully the fire was put out before it did too much damage to the building.”
Traffic in the area was diverted onto a series of side roads. Some buses were unable to travel down the narrow roads onto which traffic was diverted, so passengers got off and had to walk.
