Mobility scooter rider hurt in collision in Barnsley

A mobility scooter rider suffered serious injuries in a collision with a car in South Yorkshire.

The man, aged 58, was riding along the A61 Wakefield Road, Barnsley, when he was involved in a smash a white Vauxhall Vivaro - an eight-seater vehicle - at the junction with Smithies Lane.

It is believed they were travelling in the same direction when the crash occurred.

Police said the Barnsley man riding the scooter was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 51-year-old Barnsley man driving the Vauxhall was not injured.

Witnesses or anyone who saw either vehicle before the crash at around 12.30am on Sunday should call 101.
