Mobility rider in fight for life

A PENSIONER left fighting for life yesterday after his mobility scooter was involved in a collision with a lorry was using a pelican crossing at the time.

The 92-year-old was injured on the crossing outside Firs Hill Community Primary School, Barnsley Road, Sheffield.

Police said he had been travelling along the pavement to the nearside of the lorry when he moved onto the crossing in front of the HGV.

Police said the elderly rider was taken to the Northern General Hospital, where he has been detained.

Witnesses to the collision, at 11.50am on Thursday, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 366 of March 8.
