A SOUTH Yorkshire vet whose beloved pet dogs have gone missing has been ordered to take down all the posters she put up - or face a £75,000 fly-tipping bill.

Nicola and Richard Bayston said they are devastated after being told to remove their posters or risk a £75 fine for each one

They could be left with a bill for £75,500 because they have dotted around 1,000 posters in the streets surrounding their home.

The couple, from South Hiendley, near Barnsley, were contacted by a Wakefield Council worker who told them complaints had been received.

Nicola, an equine vet has doubled a reward on offer for information leading to the safe recovery of her dogs.

She is willing to pay £2,000 to anyone who can reunite her with the Patterdale Terriers, named Jess and Bramble.

Jess, five and Bramble, three, went missing on September 5 after they tunnelled their way under a fence.

“All we want to do is find our dogs – and yes we have put up posters everywhere,” she said. “But that’s because we are desperate to get them back.”

She said the posters had generated a number of sightings from genuine callers but they had received some distressing hoax calls too.

Glynn Humphries from Wakefield Council confirmed the couple could be fined for the posters, claiming it was fly posting.

He said: “Whilst we sympathise, fly-posting is an offence which carries a £75 fixed penalty fine. The posters have been up for five weeks and we don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask that they be removed.”

Anyone with information about the dogs should call 07887 843304 or 07779 357821.

As usual The Star reporting a load of nonsense. Very simple. No problem The Authorities are being high handed but the obvious and simple solution is to remove all the posters forthwith, go round their friends and get them to put posters in their front room windows With all the trouble going on around us why do people make an issue over something which should be solved easily Remember who your M.P.and Councillor is and tell all, your friends

I've been involved with trying to find Jess and Bramble. The Baystons are doing everything to find their girls. Tracking every lead, every field, every inch where they think they might be or been through every spare minute of their time, early mornings, late at night. It's been very distressing for them!. Of course if your dogs went missing you'd put posters up!. And as for calling them "muppets" and wishing the fine on them is heartless. These posters are going up all over the Barnsley area, in villages, shop windows, back of cars, kennels, shelters, vets, anywhere these posters will be seen. and yes.. lamp posts, If my pets went missing i'd do the same thing. I'd want as many people as possible to see a poster. The council are right to stop fly posting but they should take in to consideration that the Baystons and other pet owners need all the help they can get to find their animals. If your pets went missing... i guess you'd sit in your lovely warm homes and hope they return back to you without you having done anything to help find them? No i don't think so. Shame on Wakefield council for making them take them down. Let them find their dogs. Let the posters be kept up. Plus it's just not the Baystons that's putting up these posters. It's general public that's got hold of these posters and are going out there and helping and putting them up too without the Baytons knowing exactly where they are. So they won't get them all down. There are a lot of kind people out there that will continue to put them up. Shame on all who are against this!!. I could say that i hope your pet goes missing and never returns but i am not that cruel and heartless! I care.

i sympathise as a dog lover but if everybody put posters in the streets when they lost something then what an eyesore that would be

Having been closely involved with this couple since the day the dogs went missing i can assure everyone that the posters were not only put around the streets but these posters were also sent to various cat and dog shelters as well as distributed between family and friends across a wide area. We are trying to ensure that these dogs are found by getting the message out there to everyone all over the place and not just in their home town

Well I live 5 miles away , an I put one up in the local Post office , so its not just round their streets ! Wakefield Council run Ryhill Countrty Park an theres always "dog missing" posters up there ? So whats the difference , these dogs may have been stolen , so the more people see their pictures , the more likely they are to be found .

Hang on a minute!...... " they have dotted around 1,000 posters in the streets surrounding their home". .......I'm all for trying to find one's beloved pets but a THOUSAND posters????...... Say they've gone up and down 250 streets (which is impressive if they have) that's FOUR on every street. I have to say, that would seriously irritate me. I hope they find theor dogs but their neighbourhood must look a right eyesore now!

I'd rather read 1,000 adverts for lost pets than have to see another advertisement hoarding.

You see posters on trees in and arund Ecclesall woods relating to missing pets. Some are removed by owners whose pets have turned up but too often a lot are left on trees for months. I also think a thousand posters is a bit over the top.
