A Chesterfield man who went missing from hospital last month was found hanging in woodland, an inquest has heard.
A manhunt was launched after Roy Thompson, 60, went missing from Chesterfield Royal Hospital on the morning of October 15.
Chesterfield coroners’ court heard today that he had been residing at the hospital prior to his disappearance.
The court heard Mr Thompson was found by a member of the public in nearby woodland on October 22.
Detective Constable Sarah Moore told the court Mr Thompson disappeared from the Hartington Unit of the hospital.
She said staff immediately contacted police who began searching for Mr Thompson.
DC Moore said: “He was found by a member of the public... [who] found him hanging from a tree.”
She added: “The hospital changed which level he was at prior to him going missing on that Thursday morning.
“He wasn’t there as a section patient, he was there voluntarily.”
The inquest was opened and adjourned while investigations continue.
A review date was set for February 15.
